2011 Sun. Jan 9

We went to Super Target this morning to get groceries. I like it there, because they have a ... (can you guess?) … Starbucks! We had coffee and a treat, and then I read my book while Linda shopped. Home for lunch, read the paper, and then went for a long walk around the resort. It is a large resort, with 18 buildings of 5 or 6 floors, 2 large ponds, 9 lighted tennis courts, two large pools, a putting green and driving range, and a building with work-out room, sauna, bar-restaurant, spa, small grocery store, a lounge with check-in area and concierge. [You can see pictures at starisland.com] One side of the resort borders on Lake Cecile, and the entrance is about 1/4 mile driveway with a pond on one side, and woods along Lake Cecile on the other. This is the only entrance - the perimeter is walled and fenced. So we took a long walk over to the lake and saw the pair of Sandhill Cranes along the shore near where they nested last year. We are anxious to see if they build a nest again. We also saw several other water birds, some warblers, another crane, and even a cardinal.
Watched the Packers win, light supper here, and early to bed.

FL WEATHER: Sunny and breezy, high today 63 (about 10 less than yesterday, but still very nice), low tonight 52. Supposed to be 76 tomorrow, but with isolated showers. So far this month, they have had .3 inches of rain, which is .3 below normal. Last year was wet and cold, so I hope this year will be different.

FL NEWS: Is Baez in Over His Head: For as long as the Casey Anthony murder case has been a part of the public awareness, there have been rumors about her attorney Jose Baez’s handling of the case. [Anthony, 24, is scheduled to go on trial in May for the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie. She faces the death penalty if convicted.] The theme is that Baez is swimming in waters - and taking on legal challenges - beyond his depth. The most vivid example to support this suspicion came one week ago when the judge struck Baez with a sanction for a ‘willful’ violation of his court order to share expert-witness discovery with prosecutors. One legal analyst said “Mr. Baez has stepped on land mine after land mine.“ Some wonder why Anthony hasn’t moved on to another lead attorney.
