2011 Sat.-Sun., Feb. 5,6

Sat. We went to Starbucks at Celebration for coffee and treat (I think Ken & Nancy enjoy this, too). Then we headed to Mt. Dora, a small unique town about an hour north of here. Unfortunately, they were having an art festival, and the town of about 10,000 must have had another 20,000 visiting. We drove around for a while, and finally parked about a mile from downtown and rode a shuttle. The streets were packed with people. We had a hot dog and a sweeet-corn-and-mozzarela-cheese-fried-patty, which was very good. We walked around and looked at some art, fought the crowds, went in a neat clock shop, had some ice cream, and then noticed some black clouds coming. Ken called the shuttle, which was on the way to get us, but it started to sprinkle before it got there. We only got a little damp. We drove cross-country on our way back, and finally got home about 4:00. Later, we went to Olive Garden for supper.

Sun. Ken & Nancy left early morning - we hate to see them go. We went to Starbucks, sat at the lake edge with our treat and read the paper, Linda went to get some things at the farmers market, and then we went to church - our last Sunday to do that. We really like this pastor and wish we could continue attending here, but we leave for home this Fri. and come back 10 days later on Sun. too late for church. Then we leave the following Fri. to go to Destin. Had a lazy afternoon and then watched Green Bay win the Super Bowl.

FL WEATHER: Sat. High 82, low 55: Sun. High 70, low 58. Sat. sunny and warm until afternoon rain. Sun. Cloudy & cool all day, drizzled off and on all afternoon.

FL NEWS: Florida airports preparing for higher demand for flights to Cuba:

Airport officials in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Key West and possibly Orlando plan to seek federal permission to establish direct flights to Cuba under new travel rules implemented last month by the Obama administration to reach out to the Cuban people. They hope to tap a growing market of Cuban-Americans and members of religious, educational and cultural groups who can now travel more freely to the island. Their main goal, however, is to prepare for a major surge of traffic if the two nations remove all travel barriers for American tourists. The United States first imposed partial trade and travel restrictions in 1960 — and made it a near-total embargo in 1962 — in hopes of undercutting the Fidel Castro regime. "If relations change between the two countries, we'd certainly like to be well-positioned to take advantage," said Doug Webster, director of administration and strategic planning for the Broward County Aviation Department. "If we ever get to that point, the potential is big."
