Looking back at Celebration town center from across the lake.
The fountain on the walk around the lake. The Celebration Hotel is in
the background. It's across that end of the lake.
2011 Sat. Jan 15
An Olive Garden restaurant sits just across the highway at the entrance to the resort. We had lunch there today. It’s one of our favorite places, because they always have nice waiters, serve very good Italian food, are always decorated nicely, yet offer an inexpensive soup, salad, and breadstick lunch, which we had today. After eating, we went to the Super Target to get groceries. On our way back to the resort, we stopped at the Starbucks at Celebration. It is very warm today, so we sat at the lakeshore for a while, had our coffee and treat, and watched people go by. There is a lot more activity on Saturday, plus it’s very nice out. Then we walked around lake 1, and I took some more pictures. No alligators yet - still too cold. I talked to a man fishing in the lake, and he said he has had no action yet. He sounded like he fishes a lot but has caught nothing since last summer. Also, he’s the second person to tell me that the closest bait shop is 20 miles away. At least I know where it is from last year, and since it’s on Lake Toho I can get bait and fish right there. Then keep the bait in the refrigerator [if Linda lets me!] to use here and at Celebration. I like to use artificial lures, but they don’t work so well in colder water.
FL WEATHER: High today 72, party cloudy this morning turning to full clouds this evening. Low tonight 54. Forecasting rain for Monday - maybe another good day to go to the mall!
FL NEWS: I picked up a real estate flyer in Celebration just to see some home prices. 25 of the 44 listings were for homes costing over $500,000 and 5 were over one million. The highest was $1,999,000 for a 5 bedroom, 5.5 bath, 3 plus car garage, 2 story home with porches on both floors. Included are a fitness room, heat/cool pool & indoor sauna, and temperature controlled wine and cigar rooms. Since I gave up cigars after my heart surgery, I guess this home is not for me! Other than that, I probably would buy it. If you believe that, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you!!
First Legoland, then wax museum, big wheel?
The worldwide amusement company building Legoland Florida about 50 miles southwest of Orlando is already pondering expanding its offerings in Central Florida. In an exclusive interview with the Orlando Sentinel this week, the top executive of Merlin Entertainments Group said the company has other attractions that could do well in Orlando, ranging from its popular Madame Tussauds wax museums to something along the lines of the London Eye, a 443-foot-tall observation wheel on the river Thames in England.
