2010 March 3 Wednesday
Very chilly and windy today, but bright sun. Out of the wind, in the sun, it feels good. But it’s hard to find a spot like that to stay in! No one is at the pool today, except the disk jockey waiting for someone to show up so he can do his thing. We spent most of the day inside and only went out for supper. We went to the Olive Garden again, one of our favorites, and it is just across the road from the entrance to the resort. We both had a pasta dish, and we both brought about half of it home for another meal. It is very good, but they always serve way too much. We watched the women on American Idol, and we both thought most of them were better than last week. I hate to agree with Simon, but we both like Crystal a lot. The last girl seems a little different, but we liked her performance also. Both she and Crystal seem very comfortable on stage, and they don’t seem like they are ‘putting on’ - it just is natural for them.
WEATHER: High 60, low 45, winds 20 to 30 m.p.h. Finally, the forecast is for Sunday to be in the 70’s, and by next Wednesday up to 77.
FL NEWS: (1) “FEELING FROSTY?”
It's been one brutal winter in supposedly sunny South Florida. It's been the coldest three months in nearly four decades, the National Weather Service reported Monday, officially confirming readings from such less-precise gauges as popsicle toes and frozen iguanas. From December to February, average daily temperatures ran two to three degrees below normal across the region. Miami Beach endured its second-coldest winter, with an average temperature of 65.17, 5.6 degrees below normal. Other winter chill rankings: sixth-coldest for Naples and 10th for West Palm Beach. Those marks were set with a December that was actually two degrees warmer than normal. Miami Beach broke an all-time coldest January-February mark set in 1958. West Palm Beach had its second-coldest two months, Naples and Moore Haven the third-coldest and Fort Lauderdale the eighth-coldest.
(2) “SPRING TRAINING CENTRAL”
[Spring training is just starting, with a few games already played. I love baseball, and hope to go to a game or two while we’re here. But it’s got to get warmer first!] Local spring training sites are: Atlanta Braves at The Ballpark at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista and Houston Astros at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee. [Both of these are within a few miles of our resort.]
Nearby spring training sites are: Washington Nationals at The Space Coast Stadium in Viera [near Cape Canaveral] and Detroit Tigers at Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. [Both of these are about 50 miles away, one east and the other west of us.]
Other team south FL sites are: Baltimore Orioles, Sarasota; Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals, Jupiter; New York Mets, Port St. Lucie; New York Yankees, Tampa; Philadelphia Phillies, Clearwater; Pittsburgh Pirates, Bradenton; Tampa Bay Rays, Port Charlotte; Toronto Blue Jays, Dunedin; Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins, Fort Myers.
